Blog #4 - ‘Family Gathering’

In the photo: our family gathering at grandfather’s home, my grandfather - the first from the right ( 1986, Samarkand, Uzbekistan)

Every weekend I went with my parents to visit my grandfather/ He lived not far from us in a big house, where several relatives lived with him. Grandparents lived with their children's family and now they have this style of life, with their children, grandchildren, and sometimes families of other relatives. Each family had a separate house, and all of the houses were united by a large yard. All of the relatives gathered at dinner time at a large joint table, sharing delicious food, and talking about the news.

While the delicious dishes were in the process of cooking (and there were several of them) I spent time with young girls my age who embroidered with gold thread, preparing a dowry for themselves. Modest girls with soft smiles embroidered gold ornaments holding hoops. Hands working deftly, we happily spent time together. And then, we would run to the field to collect poppies.
